2. Seqential listing of significant events.
a. Personnel During the month there was one promotion to Staff Sergeant and four to Private First Class. Two men were awarded Purple Hearts. The Battalion sent 56 men on R&R. Three men were medically evacuated for non-battle reasons. Six men were granted emergency leave to CONUS and one man was granted humanitarian leave. There was on WIA and one DAI. There were ten Article 15 punishment awarded, and one summary court martial. One general court martial is pending. During the month two Officers, twenty six enlisted and three Corpsman were rotated to CONUS. One Officer and sixty three enlisted were joined as replacements.
b. Administration All companies were on Company Administration during this period. All companies employed the addressograph PAS system.
c. Intelligence During the reporting period information concerning the enemy and terrain was received from III MAG, 3d Marine Division, 9th Marines and HOA VANG DISTRICT Headquarters. On 8 February a Vietnamese interpreter reported to the Battalion for duty.
d. Training During the month of February training was held primarily on company level. The Battalion sent communications, ordnance/maintenance, motor transport and administration contact teams to the various companies for on the spot instruction. In the DaNang enclave school was generally held monthly by the same special section at the Bn. C.P. with representatives of the two companies coming to the Battalion for school. The various sections within H&S company held schools within their individual fields. The motor transport section held school on "Distributors", "Test equipment", "General questions and discussion of the M-35". The CommO conducted classes on the newly issued "AN/PRC- 25" as well as on radio procedures. The S-2 conducted classes on security matters, "BLACK LANG", discussion of classified matters on the phone and security of military information. The OJT type of training was the primary method used during the month. Special classes on the "Code of Conduct", troop orientation on U. S. purposes and objectives were also held. Familiarization firing of individual weapons was accomplished. FIREX's of the ONTOS were held by two companies. One company held a CPX. Protective mask drill was held.

(2) DaNang Enclave
(a) H&S Co (-) During the reporting period S-2/S-3 was relocat- ed in the Command Bunker. The Company continued its various patrol activity within the assigned patrol area. Emphasis was placed on night ambushes during this period. On 6 February the Battalion reaction platoon, all from H&S Company, was committed in defense of an area within the 9th Marine's TAOR. On 9 February General LEE, Korean Marine Corps Commandant, and BGen L. E. ENGLISH, USMC visited the Command Post. On 14 February Col. Duong Van DO, Commander of the 7th Armored Cavalry Reg. BUCHANAN from Alabama visited the Command Post. On 21 February Congres- sman COHELA from California along with Mr. W. J. DRIVER and Mr. W. STINSON of the Veterans Administration, Washington, D. C. visited the Battalion Command Post. On 25 February BGen. STILES, USMC, ADC of the 1st MarDiv, escorted by MajGen K. B. MCCUTCHEON, USMC visited the Command Post. On 26 February the Chaplain of the 1st Korean Brigade G-5 section visited the Command Post. On 27 February Mr. Etienne ANTHERIEU, correspondant for "FIGARO" (Paris, France) and Colonels V. J. CROIZAT and T. MC. FIELDS visited the Command Post. All of the dignataries mentioned above, with the exception of Col. DO were taken on a tour of the village of Yen Bac (AT985708) by the Battalion Command- er and his Civic Action Staff. The Company provided security for the visits. On 18 February two Red Cross Girls visited the Battalion Enlisted Men's Club and conducted audience participaton games. The Bat- talion was host for the Bobby RYDEL show during the month. On 20 February a squad was dispatched to (AT894718), the scene of two Co "A" immobilized ONTOS. The squad acted as a security force at the site until they were made operational on 24 February. The Ord/Maintenance section sent a contact team to the location to make repairs on the spot.
(b) Company "A" (-) (Rein) continued in direct support of the 3d Marine Regiment. The 1st Plt was in direct support of the 1st Bn. 1st Marines. One section was with Co "A" 1/1 (AT921692), the other section with 1/1 CP (AT954719). On 3 February the section with "A" 1/1 conducted H&I fire into hills 122 (AT889668) and 36 (AT895695). On 6 February the platoon continued H&I Fire from the vicinity of hil 41 (AT935663) int GS (AT9365). On 16 February the section with the 1/1 CP displaced with Co "C" 1/1. On 18 February while attempting to break trail in some dense underbrush, this section became disabled in a ravine. They remained immobile at the site (AT894718) until recovery and repair could be affected on 24 February with the assistance of the 3d Engineer Bn. who built a road to the scene. On 26 February one ONTOS from this section fired two 106mm rounds from (AT889727) at a suspected VC location at (AT885705), no confirmed results. The 1st Plt, Company "A" 1st ATBn was in direct support of the 1st Bn. 3d Marines. One section in support of Co. "D" 1/3, at LE MY conducted H&I indirect fire from (AT900821) into an area bounded by (AT896835) to (AT905857). On 10 February the same section supported a S&D mission with an infantry platoon and two AMTRACS. Twenty-four 106mm rounds were expended in support of this mission into a 500 meter square, vicinity of (AT873844). No confirmed results. On 11 February the section at LE MY supported a S&D mission with "D" 1/3. While on the mission they sealed two caves located at (AT869837) and (AT872836) utilizing 14 rounds of 106mm HEP-T. On 16, 1, 18 and 20 February night H&I missions were fired into an area north of the SONG CA DE river. On 19 February the section at LE MY augmented a fire mission laid on the Artillery and 81mm Mortar units adjacent to the "D" 1/3 positions. Target were located at (AT870844), (AT887844), (AT870855) and (AT885856). On 24 February the section at LE MY fired fifteen 106mm rounds into GS (AT8884), no confirmed results.

On 25 February the same section fired 62 106mm rounds at caves located at (AT883836), (AT881834) and (AT877834), two cave entrances were partially sealed. On 27 February a reconnaissance was conducted with "C" 1/3 in vicinity of Nam O Bridge (AT935867), the purpose being a switch of support of the section with "D" 1/3 to "C" 1/3 in early March 1966. The section at the 1/3 CP acted as part of the 1/3 reaction force during the month.
(c) Company "C" (Rein) continued in direct support of the 9th Marine Regiment. The 1st Plt. was in support of the 2nd Bn. 9th Marines. The month commenced with on section with Co. "F" 2/9 at YEN NE (AT988665), and one section at the platoon CP. (AT990678). On 8 February one ONTOS from the platoon CP location was dispatched to evacuate a wounded Marine. The ONTOS, then working with Co. "E" 2/9 was taken under VC small arms fire. The crew returned the fire with no confirmed results, The VC broke contact. The ONTOS remained with "E" 2/9 after this mission. On 14 February the section with "F" 2/9, while supporting an infantry platoon, made contact with the VC at HA DONG (AT999643) and fired fifty .50 cal spotting rounds with no confirmed results. While on the mission three AP mines were detonated and one Tank trap was encountered, with no friendly losses or damage. On 18 February the ONTOS with "E" 2/9, reinforced by one ONTOS from the 3d Plt. were given the mission of aiding a patrol pinned down by the enemy at (BT009632). Five 106mm, five .50 spotting rounds and 100 rounds of .30 cal machine gun were directed at the VC who withdrew. On 28 February one ONTOS with "M" 3/3 destroyed VC prepared positions at (AT963649). The same day the section with "G" 2/9 and a section from the 3d Plt. test fired their weapons in the vicinity of HA DONG bridge. The month ended with one section (made up of one ONTOS from 1st Plt. and one ONTOS from 3d Plt. Co "B") with "M" 3/3, at AN TRACH (1), one section 1st Plt. with "G" 2/9, and one section (made up of one ONTOS from the 1st Plt. and one ONTOS from the 3d Plt.) with "H" 2/9 and one ONTOS 1st Plt. at the 2/9 CP. The 2nd Plt. started the month in direct support of the 1st Bn. 9th Marines. One section was at TRA KHE (3) (BT073669) and one section at MAN QUAN (2) (BT044688). On 6 February the section at TRA KHE (3) supported an infantry sweep of TRA KHE (2), with no VC contact. One 8 and 9 February the sections changed locations, one to NGAN TRUNG (3) (bt65643) with Co. "D" 1/9 and the other section to VIEM DONG (BT0656d3) with Co. "A" 1/9. On 11 and 13 February the section with "A" 1/9 participated in a sweep and an ambush with no VC contact. On 17 February the section at VIEM DONG participated in a night patrol in the vicinity of (BT09653) and (BT094643), no VC contact. Between 15 and 17 February the 3d Bn, 9th Marines replaced the 1st Bn, 9th Marines in the left sector of the 9th Marines TAOR. The 2nd Plt. switched support to 3/9 for the remainder of the month. On 18 February the section at NGAN TRUNG (3) conducted a FIREX. On 20 February the same section , now with Co. "M" 3/9, engaged in a fire fight with VC at (BT052654), destroying several houses at that location, no confirmed VC casualties. On 26 February the section at VIEM DONG, now with "L" 3/9 participated in a sweep at (BT108637), no contact. On 27 February the entire platoon participated in OPERATION HUNTER in the vicinity of PHONG HO village, no contact. One 28 Februry the Plt. was pulled back (MARKED OUT) -6-

to the platoon CP (BT066719) for maintenance. The 3d Plt. Co. "B" was in direct support of the 3d Marines. The month started off with one section at AN TRACH (1) (AT972662) and one section on hill 22 (AT954667). The section from the 3d Plt. reinforcing this Plt. was on hill 55 (AT971620). On 3 February on ONTOS from the section on hill 22 fired six 106mm rounds into a village from which they were receiving VC small arms fire. Two armed VCs were later captured in the area. The section at AN TRACH (1) participated in an operation on 7 and 8 February. On the first day they returned 160 cal .30 machine gun rounds at VC who were firing at them. On the following day they fired four `106mm and 15 cal .50 spotting rounds at three VC located at (AT968646) who were firing automatic weapons at them. One VC WIA (possible) resulted. The section on hill 22 participated in a company sized sweep from their position, no confirmed results. On 11 February the section at AN TRACH (1) while supporting Co. "M" 3/3 returned VC fire from the rear and flank with 6 106mm, 210 cal. 30 machine gun and ten cal. 50 spotting rounds. One VC KIA and two VC WIA (possible) resulted. On 18 February the same section supported "M" 3/3 again and captured one VC at (AT977644). On 20 Feb- ruary the section again participated in a mission with "M" 3/3, and one ONTOS detonated an AP mine that was positioned over a 105mm artillery round. The artillery round failed to detonate, no vehicle damage resulted and no friendly WIA were sustained. On 28 February the section an AN TRACH (1) with "M" 3/3 now comprized of one ONTOS from 3d Plt. and one ONTOS from the 1st Plt. went on a S&D mission. No VC contact. The month ended with one section with "L" 3/3 on hill 22, one section at the Plt. CP (AT974706) and one section (made up of one ONTOS from 3d Plt. and one ONTOS from the 1st Plt.) with "M" 3/3. The 3d Plt Co. "C" continued in direct support of the 9th Marines. The platoon was used to reinforce the 1st Plt. ad the 3d Plt. Co. "B" 3d ATBn. (OPCON this company). The month started with one section with Co. "I" 3/3 on hill 55 (AT971620) and the other section with Co. "E" 2/9. On 1 February the section with "I" 3/3, while performing escort duties sustained on WIA NE. An infantryman detonated an AP mine and the fragments caused the WIA. On 5 February this section fired seven 106mm, eight .50 cal spotting rounds at two VC in a camouflaged marsh boat in support of a pinned down patrol. One VC WIA was captured, and the other VC escaped. On 6 February this section engaged some VC in support of another patrol from their positions on hill 55. No confirmed enemy casualties. One ONTOS from the section with "E" 2/9 participated in the action shown under 1st Plt. On 8 February. On 15 February the section on hill 55 expended four 196mm, four .50 cal spotting rounds along with two M-26 fragmentation grenade in support of an "I" 3/3 patrol. On 16 February one ONTOS was with- drawn from the section in support of "E" 2/9, leaving a section made up of one ONTOS from the 1st Plt. reinforced by one ONTOS from the 3d Platoon. On 17 February Co "H" 2/9 replaced Co. "E" 2/9 on position and the composite section mentioned above remained at the site in support of "H" 2/9. On 20 February the section with "I" 3/3 on hill 55 took a group of VC at (AT966618) under fire with four 106mm and five .50 cal spotting rounds. No confirmed VC KIA. On 21 February the same section expended four M-26 grenades in the destruction of VC tunnels. On 24 February they participated in a patrol with "I" 3/3, no VC contact. (MARKED OUT)

month ended for this platoon with one section on hill 55 with "I" 3/3, one ONTOS reinforcing an ONTOS from the 1st Plt with "H" 2/9 (BT023654) and one ONTOS at the 1st Plt CP (AT990678). One remains at the 3d Plt Co "B" CP at (AT974706).
(3) Chu Lai Enclave
(a) Company "B" (-) (Rein) attached to the 1st Marine Regiment. The 1st Plt. was in direct support of the 1st Bn. 4th Marines. They maintained defensive positions at the 1/4 at the 1/4 CP (Rear). On 4 February they displaced to the 1/4 CP (Forward) on hill 69 (BT464073). On 5 February the platoon reinforced by the 2nd Plt. participated in convoy escort duty for "D" 1/4 and the Bn. Hq group in support of OPERATION DEAD END. The convoy proceeded along highway One and when the troops dismounted for the operation they assumed blocking positions. After the operation that evening the 1st Plt. escorted "M" 3/7 (OPCON 1/4) and the 1/4 Hq group back to their area. On 18 February the platoon provided escort duty for "M" 3/7 S&D mission in the vicinity of hill 54 (BT396145). One ONTOS destroyed a trench line at GS (BT413) on the 19th of February. At the conclusion of the S&D mission on 20 February the platoon retreated and returned to their defensive positions. Four incidents of sporadic sniper fire were encountered during the three day mission. The platoon concluded the month located on the 1/4 MLR, located at GS (BT5209) and (BT5210). The 2nd Plt. was in direct support of the 1st Bn. 4th Marine Regiment. They started the month with one section on hill 69 (BT464073) with the 1/4 CP (Forward). One section was located a (BT465070). On 2 February one ONTOS fired an indirect H&I mission from a defilade position at (BT461073). The target was at (BT424049). With the Plt. Cmdr acting as FO excellent target coverage was obtained. On 5 February the platoon reinforced the 1st Plt. on OPERATION DEAD END. Upon completion of the operation they escorted "D" 1/4 back to their positions. On 14 February one section accompanied "D" 1/4 to (BT441099) a site where an ARVN platoon was surrounded by VC. Upon arrival at the scene one ONTOS was brought under small arms fire by the VC. Fifty rounds of .30 cal machine gun fire was returned, with no confirmed results. On 18 February one section provided convoy escort duty for an infantry platoon and an engineer unit to (BT411128) and (BT396145). Later that same day this section now with "D" 1/4 linked with the 1st platoon escorting "M" 3/7 and supported them in a joint S&D mission of the area surrounding hill 54 (BT396145). On 10 February four VC crossing a ridge line were fired on by one ONTOS. Later on the VC were observed emerging from behind the hill, they were taken under fire by artillery. The results were two VC KIA (Possible). On 20 February the section withdrew with "D" 1/4 back to hill 69. On 23 February one section escorted "D" 1/4 to (BT419123). On 28 February the section again escorted "D" 1/4, this time to hill 54 (BT396145).
(b) Company "C" (Rein) 1st ATBn. attached to the 7th Marines Regiment. The Hdqtrs Plt. continued to man two M-60 machine guns at (BT560048). This is in support of the 7th Marine Regiment's Beach Security Plan. (MARKED OUT) -8-

The 1st Plt. was in direct support of the 1st Bn. 7th Marines. One section manning MLR positions at (BS605995) with "B" 1/7, the other section was at (BS568997) with "D" 1/7. The Platoon Headquarters was displaced from (BT560048) to (BT584016), the 1/7 CP location. The 2nd Plt. was in direct support of the 2nd Bn. 7th Marines. One section was manning the MLR at (BT495036) and the other section on the MLR at (BT504030). The Plt. Hdqtrs was displaced from (BT560048) to (BT509028), the 2/7 CP location. On 26 February a FIREX (indirect fire) was conducted. An artillery officer acted as FO, the results were considered excellent. The 3rd Plt. was in direct support of the 3d Bn. 7th Marines. One section was manning the MLR at (BS549996) and the other section on the MLR at (BT528002). On 3 February the section located at (BS549996) fired 75 rounds of cal .50 from (BS547995), into suspected VC locations at (BS552989), (BS553991), and (BS549989), no confirmed results. On 3 February the other section conducted a H&I Fire mission into GS (BS5198) and (BS5298). 23 106mm and 60 .50 cal spotting rounds were expended. No confirmed VC casualties.
(4) Hue Phu Bai Enclave
(a) 2nd Platoon Co. "A" 1st AT Bn. Attached to the 2nd Battalion 1st Marines. One ONTOS was deployed nightly for the 2/1 security element. On 10 February the platoon conducted H&I fire from (YD900072) into an impact area 4-6000 meters southwest, no confirmed VC casualties. A total of 184 106mm rounds were expended. On 26 February the platoon was totally comitted to an operation within the 2/1 TAOR. As the operation was still in effect as the month ended no detailed information is available at this time. Spot information from the 3d Marine Regiment indicates that no casualties have been reported as of the end of February.
f. Communications and Electronics During the month of February the Communication Platoon provided the normal command post communication functions. The Comm Platoon was inspected on 18 February as part of the Commanding General's Inspection of AT Battalion. A Battalion Radio Net was established with "B" Company in Chu-Lai to back up the telephone system and to handle overflow traffic. This net operate twice daily 6 days a week.
g. Logisitics. The lack of track continues to present a major pro- blem. Outstanding requistions for 360 sections of track are on hand, and forty sections are expected in on 9 March. Three hundred sections have been placed on priority 02 requistion and aggressive follow up action will be taken. Alternators have also became a serious problem, with three ONTOS deadlined for lack of alternators. Advance information indicates shipment of 5 alternators in the near future. Ordnance/Maint- enance. A total of ten ONTOS were deadlined and eight ONTOS were removed from deadline during the month. Quarterly Services were continued with four ONTOS receiving this service. Nine contact teams were dis- patched during the month to provide services and assist in recovery programs. On 15 February an Unsatisfactory Equipment Report was sub- mitted to FMF? recommending modification of the Indicator, Traversing (MARKED OUT) and 17 February the Commanding General's Inspection Team conducted Engineer and Ordnance Equipment Inspections.

Motor Transport. 298 vehicles were dispatched from Battalion Head- quarters for a total of 8640 miles. Acceptance test were begun on 26 February for 16 M-422A1 vehciles received that date. During the month 39 work orders were opened and completed. Three M-422 vehicles were coded "X" and turned in. Supply. In February 622 requistions were submitted and 170 filled for a percentage of 25%. Major items of equipment received were 15 road wheels and 16 M-422A1 Mighty Mites. Requests were submitted to CMC on 23 February for special allowances of (1) switchboard, telephone, SB-22 and (6) Radio Sets, AN/PRC-47. A request for a special allowance of (6) M-79 grenade launchers was submitted to CMC on 23 February.
h. Civic Action. The Battalion Civic Action Team was very active throughout the month of February. The team medically treated 191 adults adn 343 children with 641 treatments administered. Over half the treatmens fell into the "Upper Respiratory Infection" and "Disease of the Skin" category. During the month 44,000 Piasters were contributed to the Vietnamese economy in payment for laundry services rendered. The hamlet of Yen Bac (AT985708) received approximately 18, 816 pounds of garbage and liquid waste from the Battalion Mess Hall for Animal Feed. During the week of 1 - 5 February the Battalion Civic Action Team visited the hamlet of Yen Bac (AT985708) five times. Medical assistance was given on each occasion. The better part of the week was spent working on house number signs for future posting at the sub-hamlets of Yen Bac (AT985708). Further work was accomplished on the construction of a toilet near the aid station at Yen Bac (AT986708). During the week of 6 - 12 February the Battalion Civic Action Team visited the hamlet of Yen Bac (AT985708) six times. Medical assistance was given on each visit and fifty pounds of clothing were passed out to 73 people of the hamlet. The Battalion Commander held a conference with the hamlet and sub-hamlet chiefs. They discussed the acts of vandalism that have occcured near the Battalion Aid Station and its undesirable effect upon the civic action program. A bunker was constructed next to the aid station at Yen Bac (AT985708) as a defensive measure. The inhabitants of sub-hamlet #5 (AT985708) constructed a barber shop. Haircuts cost 20 piasters. The census program was completed at sub-hamlet #5. The sub-hamlet consists of fourteen families and twenty-five are males. Five of the male population are of draft age. During the week of 13-19 February the hamlet of Yen Bac (AT985708) was visited six times and meidcal assistance given on each occasion. A 100 lb. sack of corn was given to Mr. Nguyeg LUC of sub-hamlet #5 for his assistance in the construction of the aid station at Yen Bac. One truckload of scrap lumber was given to the hamlet for use in their homes. Four 100 lb. bags of rice millet were given to the hamlet in compensation for services rendered in the cutting of brush around the aid station at Yen Bac. GySgt ROSS of the Combat Information Bureau, DaNang, Vietnam, visited the hamlet of Yen Bac with the Battalion Civic action team. The purpose of GySgt ROSS' visit was to produce film showing civic action teams at work, and the results of such a program. During the week of 20 - 26 February the hamlet of Yen Bac (AT 985708) was visited six times and medical assistance given on each occasion. During this period the

2. Sequential listing of significant events, as they relate to:
a. Personnel. 1stLt CHANG was relieved as commanding officer by Capt LANPHIER on 8 February 1966. b. Operations and Training. The ONTOS platoons supporting the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines participated in five search and destroy and escort operations and two H&I fires. Training was directed towards im- proving communication, direct and indirect fire procedure and tactical driving. In addition, classes were conducted on General Military subjects. During this period all members of the company participated in familiarization firing of their T/O weapons and a gas mask drill. c. Logistics. During the reporting period there were 85 Priority 12 requistions submitted and 53 Priority 12 requistions and 15 priority 05 requistions received. At the end of the reporting period there are 399 priority 12, 51 Priority 05 and 7 Priority 02 requistions outstanding.

Detailed Chronology of Events
2 February The 2ndPlt Cmdr acting as forward observer used one Ontos to demonstrate the indirect fire capability of the M50A1. The Ontos, in a defilade firing position at (BT 460173), fired 10 rounds of 106mm at (BT 424049). Two rounds were used in ad- justing fire with the succeeding eight rounds on target with good coverage and excellent accuracy.
5 February The 1st and 2nd Platoons participating in "Operation Deadend" departed a 0200H providing convoy escort to CoD, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and the Bn Hqtrs group. At the objective area the two platoons set in blocking positions, dispersing approximately 150 meters apart, between (BT 431108) and (BT 448090). The operation secured at 1500. The 1st Platoon provided escort for CoM, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines and 1st Battalion, 4th Marines Hqtrs Group. The 2nd Platoon provided escort for CoD, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.
14 February At 0230H, the light section of the 2nd Platoon departed Hill 69 with a platoon from CoD, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines to (BT 441099). The mission was to assist an ARVN Platoon re- portedly surrounded by VC. Upon arrival at 0345H, Vehicle 24 received small arms fire. The Ontos returned 50 rounds of 30 caliber machine gun fire with unknown results. No other contact reported. The light section remained in position until 0700 at which time they returned to their positions on Hill 69.
18-20 February At 0630, the light section of the 2nd Platoon departed Hill 69 to provide escort for one infantry platoon and one engineer platoon, and moved to (BT 411128) and (BT 405137). At 1530H the 1st Platoon with CoM, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines departed 1st Battalion, 4th Marines C.P. to link up with the light section of the 2nd Platoon and CoD,1st Battalion, 4th Marines for a search and destroy operation, "Steel Gate", in the areas sur- rounding Hill 54. At 190900H four VC were taken under fire as they crossed a ridgeline (BT 376126). Six rounds of 106MM Hep-T were fired by Vehicle 25 at the the top and reverse slope of the ridgeline with unknown results. At 191930H, one ONTOS from the 1st Platoon fired six rounds of 106MM Hep-T H&I fire on a trench line (BT 4313) destroying the trench. At 201230H the 1st and 2nd platoons withdrew and returned to their defensive positions.
23 February At 0530H the light section of the 2nd Platoon escorted a truck convoy to (BT 419123) where CoD, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines disembarked. The light section escorted the return of the convoy to Hill 69 at 0740H.
28 February At 0630H the light section of the 2nd Platoon escorted CoD,1st Battalion, 4th Marines to Hill 54 and set up in defensive positions for road security. At 1330H, three VCS were sighted at (BT 4011149) moving through a confirmed mined area. Four rounds of 106MM Hept-T were fired to scare the VCS from the area since it could not be determined that the Vietnamese were in fact VC.
